Custom Fabric Harness, Backpack Etc
Regular price $58.00
Because we can, and we love to show off how special our dogs are :)
Read Carefully - Yes - we do make our harnesses, backpack, etc. from custom prints/fabric.
1. If you already have a fabric - We recommend the fabric be a Cordura, or Pack Cloth or Canvas (Not Cotton). If you don't have the fabric see 3 below.
2. A small print will be best as only a small amount of the fabric will actually show on the harness. The 4 green prints give the best example of size that will work best. The Dragon print will be more of a challenge. In the second picture I put a picture of a finished Lucy Petite over the Dragon print so you can see how it would look. In the 3rd picture I put a picture of a size Dixie and a Lucy Petite over the fabric.
3. You can also purchase a printed fabric on Spoonflower.com once you decide on which print is your favorite (good luck on that I get lost for hours) select the Fabric Type as Eco Canvas (Eco Canvas is under the Woven Section in the Choose Fabric dropdown). In the Choose amount section select a Fat Quarter for a harness or toys and a full yard for a backpack. Have it shipped to Attn: Stacy Hefner BrilliantK9 3524 Sylvan Drive, Lucas, OH 44843. Please put an order note with the BrilliantK9 order number on the Spoonflower order so we know who it’s for when the fabric comes in to the shop. In the BrilliantK9 Order note please state the name of the fabric and designer you chose. We will ship the remainder of the fabric back to you along with the harness/backpack/toys etc.
4. 1st you'll need to select the harness size for your dog, if you are not sure please contact us and we are happy to help. Or check your dogs size using the Sizing Calculator click here

FOR THE QUICK BRILLIANTK9 HARNESS SIZING GUIDE CLICK HERE
The AKC (American Kennel Club) currently recognizes 189 breeds of dogs, that does not include the number of non recognized breeds or mix breeds. We offer 20 fully adjustable sizes to ensure each dog gets the perfect fit. Other Harnesses are offered in 5 or 6 sizes, and no matter how adjustable, they do not fit the range of height, width, and length combinations. Poor sizing leaves dogs uncomfortable, causing rub spots or dogs backing out.
Tons of information below in both written format and video to help you with fitting a dog harness and understand how to properly use them.
Section 1 is How to Measure.
Section 2 is How to Get the Perfect Fit on a BrilliantK9 Harness.
1) Front Measurement - from the breastbone to the middle of the back.
2) Girth Measurement - the circumference of the dog at the middle of the back.
ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR MEASUREMENTS, SEE DOG HARNESS SIZE CHART (further below) TO FIND YOUR FIT
Please check out the About Us Page for more information on fitting a dog harness. If you're still not sure how to measure a dog for a harness, you can message us through Facebook Message on the upper right corner or use the Chat Feature on the bottom right of this page. Or you can email us at email@example.com with your dogs measurements, age, weight and a picture if you need any help with fitting a dog harness.
If your dog is a trim active dog, narrow bodied, or longer than tall, the Lucy Fit is the right option. If you have a bully breed with a shorter ribcage or a heavy bodied dog, then the Original Fit will work best. Please remember the harness is designed to fit looser on the dog, if the harness is too tight it will not work properly and it will cause the dog to be uncomfortable. Take into account the dogs coat - for heavy coated dogs measure over the top of the coat, the harness will need to float on top of the coat. If you are at the end of a size range then go up to the next size. If you are not sure what size to buy you can always chat or message us. Send a picture of your dog from the side with height, weight and age, and we will be happy to help you with fitting a dog harness properly.

Section 2 How to Get the Perfect Fit on a BrilliantK9 Harness
The BrilliantK9 Ergonomic Dog Harness is designed differently than the majority of walking tools, such as collars, head collars and other harnesses. The BrilliantK9 Ergonomic Dog Harness keeps pressure off the neck, and allows freedom of front-end movement while limiting the dog’s effectiveness at pulling.
Collars are a common device used to walk dogs. The point at which the collar hits not only strains the spinal cord, but can also strain the vessels that connect to the nose, eyes and ears, which, in turn, will compromise a dog’s five natural senses. In addition, the pressure from a collar could irritate or damage the thyroid glands, which are also located on the anterior portion of the dog’s neck.
Other common devices used to walk the dog are head halters and harnesses. While head halters may be effective, they are not always the best option for a dog with anxiety issues or a previous neck injury. The majority of harnesses are designed based on a Schutzhund style, having the main points of the harness focus on the dog’s rib cage, shoulders, and upper body. When a dog pulls in a Shutzhund style harness, the dog drops its’ hind end in order to shift the majority of their body weight into their front end for more power. This hind end drop will stress the dog’s knees and hips, as well as its’ lower back. When all of their body weight has been shifted forward, the harness will put direct pressure on or around the shoulder blades, which will restrict movement, causing wear and tear on the muscles and ligaments in that area.
The BrilliantK9 Ergonomic Dog Harness derived its’ ergonomic design with the help of veterinarians, canine sports trainers, chiropractors, acupuncturists, along with agility World Team members and coaches. The harness was designed to allow freedom of movement while taking advantage of a dog’s natural pivot point. The saddle portion of the harness was designed to swaddle a dog’s back, keeping them calm and comfortable, making it great for the anxious or nervous dog. The non-water absorbent material will not retain water, making it useful for swimming and under water treadmill work. The chest strap of the harness is seated above the dog’s shoulder blades, but below the trachea, allowing free range of motion while keeping the neck free of pressure. The girth strap is seated just behind the last few ribs of the rib cage, and over the sternum, which is the natural pivot point of a dog. Thus, when the dog pulls, the girth lifts them upwards at their pivot point, limiting their effectiveness at pulling. When a dog is ineffective at pulling, it is apt to decrease or discontinue pulling.
The BrilliantK9 Ergonomic Dog Harness was designed with the dog’s best interest in mind, but the owners were not forgotten. The 15 sizes and 22 colors and patterns were created to keep both ends of the leash wagging.
